kleinfreund I have to say, I’m impressed. This record is well into the run for one of my favorite albums of the year.

This is what I call refreshing. It’s is very much the eclectic electronic pop record I needed. Not as weird as your FKA twigs yet not as streamlined as any of the others.

And now just “get in the zone”. Favorite track: Randomness.

Matt Broussard Like a good book, you get something different out of this record from each listen. At first, it may seem all over the place. After a few times through, you begin to appreciate that each track is a deeply thoughtful exploration of the genres and subject matter inspiring it. Neither the levity of Doppio and Zone nor the seriousness of America feel out of place, and Olga's production, writing, and vocals shine throughout. Favorite track: Ritual (ft. Sara Lucas).

about

Written, produced and performed by Olga Bell, TEMPO is her third LP—following 2014’s Krai and 2011’s Diamonite—and features contributions from vocalist Sara Lucas and longtime collaborators Jason Nazary and Gunnar Olsen.

“This record is first for the body, then for the mind,” says Bell, who began writing the album immediately after seeing the film Paris Is Burning. “I started every song by thinking about tempo specifically, listening to the metronome alone, feeling its relation to my body, to the pace of the day, the weather, the light. On fast days I listened to club music, most of it at least twenty years old, and on slow days I turned to early West Coast hip-hop and Portishead because of how physically charged and compelling these records feel despite their low BPM.”
